Rebuilding Together

Good news!!!  Tabernacle completed Rebuilding Together work on a house on Partlow Road in Spotsylvania County. The main work day was April 27, 2019 with a follow up work day with a smaller crew on May 10th. Items completed on the home included power washing the home; scraping and painting the foundation; installing two rain gutters and downspouts; replacing a bowed post on the back porch; replacing the outside lights on the front and back of the house; installing three grab rails on the front and back of the house; completely refinishing a bathroom including installing a shower in place of a bathtub, eliminating a window, installing a new vanity and sink top combination, installing a replacement toilet, installing a new floor, installing an exhaust fan; and obtaining an ABC fire extinguisher for the homeowner. Many thanks to everyone who helped make this project a success.

Rebuilding Together is a national organization dedicated to repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

Their vision is for safe homes and communities for everyone.  They serve Veterans, people with disabilities, and low-income homeowners.

Rebuilding Together started with the simple act of neighbors helping neighbors.  In 1973, a small group of people in Midland, Tx realized homes in their community had fallen into disrepair and their neighbors could not afford to fix them on their own.  The group volunteered their time and skills to rehabilitate the homes of their neighbors.  Realizing the potential impact of this work, the group formed ‘Christmas in April,’ with the intent of performing repair and rehabilitation work in their community every April.

News of the group’s good work spread slowly, but eventually achieved national recognition.  The mission spread beyond the idea of providing service once a year in April to bringing together partners from all walks of life to help our neighbors year-round.  In 1988 they opened a national office and became Rebuilding Together.
